Va-Ca

So, I am finaly getting out of this desert for a few days. A whole week even. I'll be heading up to Flagstaff, AZ early in the am, on the morning of Aug 2nd. To pick up Russell (that is if he's finished his summer school final) Then together we will head up to the cabin, maybe stay the night there, then head on up to SLC the following day. Where we will spend a week playing with my new nephew! Tayson was born July 21st, and I am a very eager aunt to meet this new little family member. And to see my lives-too-far-away siblings.
I'm sure I could leave them at home, and almost survive, but the scissors will be coming with me. To both fix, and update the haircut his mom and uncle have been giving my first nephew Ryker. And I'm sure i'll be doing one or two extended family member's hair in there... good thing i love what i do. That, and if i work a little bit while i'm there, the trip becomes a tax write off! Gotta love the loop-holes.
As for my pathetic blog, Ryan will be helping me update my look. He's a wiz at this sort of thing, and is constantly reminding me that my blog is lacking. Ah well, a blog make-over is on it's way!

I'm so no good at keeping this up. (tho i'm better than Shels) When my bro forced me (yes hands were tied) to create a blog, I had a goal to write on it at least once a month. Welp, I'm sadly behind. So i've modifieed my goal... A new post once or twice every one or two monthes! Yes! A realistic goal I may actually keep. I can so do this.
If i am confessing to unacomplished goals, I need to add my latest sad little failed goal. Get to every spring training venue the valley has to offer this spring training season. Not only was that one not accomplished, I didn't even take a real swing at it. (pardon the baseball pun) I was able to get in a night game with the folks at Peoria, though technically I've been to that sports complex loads before, so i didn't really accomplish part two of my goal. If you can't get to all the stadiums, at least go to one you've never been to before. How sad. I may never again see an Arizona spring so beautiful. The weather was perfect. Never getting into those scary "why do i live here again" days. Everyday the sun set into a gorgeous orange and red sky. And when the lights came on, as the sky turned dark, people pulled out sweaters, and blankets, and stayed to cheer on the 'home team'. Alas, the training time is over. Hopefully i can have one more try at a perfect carefree spring next year.
As the crack of a bats hitting baseballs echoed throughout the valley of the sun, I was working amid the fumes of aerosols, and perms! Ha, ok i wasn't totally amid the fumes, but i was at work. My spring training consisted of training myself up for a salon of my own (someday). I was a very busy kid. I love my clientele! There were long days, and many a late nights, but I'm a lucky girl to get to do what i love. And yes, someday i want to have my very own salon. (minus the girl drama) (oh, and minus the nail stink) (oh, except I'll want to get free pedi's, so back on with the nail stink, but add an excellent ventilation system) (oh, and a waterfall) yeah!

Teacher?

So last week I taught a class on haircare to the young women of my church. It went good (no one booed) and I think the girls enjoyed it. In the week or so prior to the class, I was pondering what exactly to teach. A color class for example would be fairly easy, I would demo the latest and greatest of the coloring techniques. And really show what application processes work for me. But I wasn't teaching a class of skilled cosmotologist, I was teaching, untrained 14-18 year olds. Haircare? Like shampoo, rinse, repeat? How hard can that be? Anyone can learn that from the back of a bottle. So I make a decision... I'm going to mold these young minds into my way of thinking. Teach a child the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart far from it. ;) I gave them instructions on all my favorite tricks and tools. I gave them product knowlege (yes, of the best kind, Enjoy, Aquage, Chi, i'm talking 'bout you) I gave them helpful hints on how to blow dry (divide and conquer!) I even gave them some tips on how to get the perfect curl, and gave a mini demo on prom updo's. I decided (very last minute) to pull an 'Opra' style show, and gave away all the shampoo's and conditioners I had bought to show for demo! Wow! (Now i know why the girls enjoyed it) I got home feeling pretty good about myself. I'd given a farly desent leason, I felt I presented my konwlege well, and no one was texting during my ramblings. Then I found my receipts... I accidentally donated over $100.00 worth of product that night. Needless to say, I had a small case of 'givers - remorse. I'm hoping the girls enjoy the new suds, and use them faithfully.
Besides I probably would have waisted that on shoes, or a purse anyway. And frankly, I've run out of shoe cubby holes.
